Garbanzo Bean and Potato Fritters with Red Bell Pepper Harissa

There is a historical reason why most Hanukkah menus offer foods that have been fried in oil. Hanukkah is the celebration of that miracle, and fried foods are served to commemorate the oil. In this country, the Eastern European potato latke is usually featured. These fritters are a Sephardic contribution to that tradition.

These days, I don't always get to celebrate Thanksgiving with my parents, so rather than make a wanna-be version of Dad's stuffing, I developed this one, which is pretty darn good."
